In the past 24 years I have experienced more trauma and life experiences than any girl my age should go through. I was taken from my parents in a drug raid at 4 years old and placed in foster care. I was adopted, had my name legally changed and then  I was tossed from home to home. I went through years of physical, mental and sexual abuse. I spent some time homeless and lived on the streets for a while. My brother was murdered in Detroit and I have been meeting more of my biological family since then. I was married for 5 years and then divorced and through all of that I managed to get a nursing degree and become successful.   After almost losing my life last August and begging God to keep me alive if I shared my life story I decided it was time to share my story and show people that resilience is obtainable and that success is possible in a life filled with suffering and constant trials. I  published my book this year ‘Taking Back The Pen” ( http://www.createspace.com/4271634)  and it was a rough road digging back into the emotion to write it but the goal is to use my suffering to make a difference in somebody else’s life. from the feedback I have been getting, many lives have been changed after they have read my book.

  1. Your story reminds me (amongst other things!) of the Bon Jovi song “We weren’t born to follow”

    “We weren’t born to follow
Come on and get up off your knees
When life is a bitter pill to swallow
You gotta hold on to what you believe
Believe that the sun will shine tomorrow
And that your saints and sinners bleed
    We weren’t born to follow
You gotta stand up for what you believe
Let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah
Let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah”

    Way to go Rachel!
